Violent partners, a specific intervention program

The Partner Assault Response (PAR) Program is designed to achieve several key objectives in the fight against domestic violence. These objectives are essential to support survivors and break the cycle of violence.

Breaking the cycle of violence

Prevent reoffending by violent partners

By offering specialized education / counselling sessions to individuals who have been physically violent, emotionally abusive or controlling towards a spouse or intimate partner, the PAR program aims to prevent the recurrence of intimate partner violence. This may include advising offenders on how to establish healthy relationships, strategies to recognize early signs of violence, and promoting accountability to help them change their behavior.

Ensure the safety of survivors

One of the main goals of PAR Program is to ensure the physical, emotional, and financial safety of survivors of domestic violence. This includes safety planning to minimize future risks for survivors and children involved.

Promote empowerment

PAR aims to empower survivors by providing them with the resources and information needeed to make informed decisions and regain control of their lives. This may include information about rights and legal options, counseling sessions to build self-confidence, and the development of healthy coping strategies.

Provide emotional support

Intimate partner violence has a profound impact on the emotional and psychological health of survivors. The PAR Program is committed to providing emotional support throughout the intervention process. This may include individual counselling sessions and offering survivors a safe space to express their emotions.

Prevent reoffending by violent partners

By offering comprehensive support to survivors, PAR Program also aims to prevent the recurrence of domestic violence. This may include

  • advising survivors on how to establish healthy relationships,
  • strategies to recognize early signs of violence in potential partners,
  • and promoting accountability for perpetrators to help them change their behavior.

Strengthen community partnerships

PAR encourages collaboration with other organizations and stakeholders in the community to collectively combat domestic violence. This may include partnerships with government organizations, police services, women’s shelters, social services, and other key actors to provide comprehensive and coordinated services to survivors.

By working towards these objectives, the Partner Assault Response(PAR) Program plays an essential role in the prevention and fight against domestic violence.
