Crisis Intervention Service

Service Description

This service offers individuals in a psychosocial / psychiatric crisis situation with a timely access to assessment and psycho-bio-social crisis intervention services aimed at taking care of a situation / person, the stabilization and reduction of symptoms, and the recovery of the individual's internal stability.

Services Offered

  • Assessment, prioritization, completion of an intervention plan, counselling and coordination services
  • Support, information and coordination services such as referral to community organisations/resources according to needs
  • Follow-up after crisis intervention: intervention/counselling sessions, according to the intervention plan

Eligibility Criteria

  • 16 years of age or over
  • Experiencing a crisis

Referral Procedures

Services are available from the following sites:

  • Weekdays - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at our offices;
  • Weekday evenings - 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., by calling our offices;
  • Weeknights - 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., via the emergency room of local hospitals;
  • Weekend days - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., by calling our offices;
  • Weekend nights - 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., via the emergency room of local hospitals.

During the day or the evening, referrals to this service can be made by:

  • The client;
  • Family members and friends;
  • Emergency services staff;
  • Police services staff;
  • Community agencies.

During the night, referrals to this service can only be made by:

  • Emergency services staff;
  • Police services staff;
  • Internally from by one of the other programs of the Counselling Services.
